____________________________Let's Beat Cancer!!_____________________________
For me, this is more than just a fundraising event. Just like people who are in the fight to beat cancer, I'm not going to give up until I get to the finish line. I might struggle, I might cramp, I might even have to walk for part of it. I don't want to do this and then say, "Oh, that wasn't so bad." It's about going beyond what your body thought it was capable of. Pushing past tiredness and fatigue. 100 miles is daunting (especially when you see it on a map), but think about how daunting it is when someone is diagnosed with cancer. They aren't sure how they will get through it and there are so many unknowns, but they push through...even when they want to quit. This is what bike to beat cancer is to me.
I am participating in the Bike to Beat Cancer in an attempt to help people in our community in their fight against cancer, in honor of my victorious cousin, Luke Bartley, in honor of my Uncle, Schuyler Tucker, Jr., and in loving memory of my sister, Kailen Combs Taylor. Six years ago my sister was diagnosed with Stage IV breast cancer at the age of 22 and fought for three years until the age of 25 when her body could no longer hold out. During that time we were blessed to have family and friends support us in many ways, one of which was financially. From trips paid for to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, to meals that were brought to us at the hospital, we were blessed to have this support and to not have to stress more than cancer already caused over financial struggles. Not everyone has this kind of support and I want this money to help patients and families in the ways they need during this time of battle. It is my sincere hope we can find a way to beat cancer, but, even more than that, that we can give people hope and comfort as they are fighting this terrible battle. Thank you so much for your donations and for helping to make a difference in the lives of those touched by cancer.
